Mariel was born royal, but has spent most of her life as an outlaw, working for the Resistance—an underground organization attempting to overthrow Natric’s corrupt monarchs. When the royal grandparents who left her for dead long ago offer her the future crown, she declines, but when they threaten the life of her commoner father she is left with an impossible choice: become something she hates or watch her father die.
As Mariel fights against the new responsibilities and expectations that confine her, forgotten memories of her mother’s murder threaten her sanity and a creature who hunted her as a child returns to finish off his prey. Mariel quickly discovers that she may be a master sword-fighter, but not all enemies can be defeated with a mere blade…
“Kayla Hudson’s book “Royal Outlaw” is action-packed and still has such depth to it. I wasn’t able to put it down!
This is a story of a young woman, Mariel, who battles the challenges that life throws at her and matures as a result of these experiences. Kayla Hudson has done a fantastic job of character development and I can’t wait to read how Mariel continues to grow in the next book. In Book One, the Resistance spy, Mariel finds out that her maternal grandparents want to acknowledge her as their heir to the throne of Natric and she is blackmailed into accepting. The rest of the book follows her journeys as she fights back against those that are trying to change her into the perfect princess, those that want to use her to their benefit and advancement, and against her forgotten memories of the monster that killed her mother and is trying to kill her. Along the way, Mariel realizes that she cannot do this alone and she begins to realize that she has friends that she wants to trust including the mischievous spy, James, who is full of mystery, and Cara, the sweet and timid girl who begins to learn from Mariel how to stand up for herself.
Hudson has woven a fantasy that includes elements of excitement, magic, humor, friendship, and conflict. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the realms where this story takes place. I can’t wait until the second book comes out!” by Alicia
“A very good book! Clean, with mystery and intrigue. Horrible things have happened to Mariel, but it is written in such a way that it is not gory. I love Mariel and James. Normally James doesn’t strike me as a name for a strong guy, but it fits this James. Can’t wait to read book 2 and find out what happens!” by Mark
“This is one of the best books I have read in years! I haven’t read a novel in years but I could not put Royal Outlaw down. I cannot wait for Kayla Hudson to release the next two books. Once you start reading you will be immersed in a fantasy world that you will never want to leave. There is action, romance, and drama tied into a twisting plot that will keep you hooked. This book needs to be on your reading list!” by Bruce
Kayla Hudson has always had a vivid imagination. She found an outlet for that imagination in the form of writing when she was in first grade. It has long been Kayla’s dream to become a published author so that her stories can be shared with a broader audience.
Kayla has a degree in Social Sciences from California State University, Chico. As a local of South Lake Tahoe, California, Kayla enjoys everything outdoors, from hiking to skiing to horseback riding. In Kayla’s opinion, a snowbound day is the perfect excuse to curl up with a good book in front of a crackling fire or type away at her own stories.
